The New Green Book is a 2017 interpretation of the Negro Motorist's Green Book, a travel guide that outlined safe routes of passage to African American travelers. In my piece, I created directories for potential 2017 users: SANCTUARY, immigration resources; OASIS, natural hair salons; SHIELDS, rights surrounding police accountability; and PRO-NOUN, LGBTQ related legislation. The last booklet, HOME, tackles my personal safe places.

Each cover was screen printed by hand, and the cover illustrations, mimicking winding road trips, were inspired by the art deco period that was coming to life in the United States at the time of the Green Books' first printings.

This project was initiated as my MFA thesis exhibition piece.
